Winnie & Walter Premier Day 4

Hallo everyone and Happy Friday!
Today is Premier Day 4 of Winnie & Walter's June Release and today I am sharing a card I made with Happy Dance with Evelin T Designs (that's me! hehe)

To create this card, I cut a piece of watercolor paper into 4" by 5.25" and stamped the brush lettering sentiment and confetti onto the paper. Then I colored them with watercolor and used my prismacolors to add some highlights onto the confetti and stars.

I already pre-stamped and watercolored the little critters and ran them through the die cut machine the night before. I usually like to stamp and watercolor multiples and have a stack of these images on the ready should inspiration hits me or if I want to create multiple cards.

I used colored pencils to create shadows for them and foam tape to prop up the little kitty :) As a final touch, I added sequins on the card to 'make it more festive'.

I hope you enjoyed the card I made with Happy Dance and that it makes you feel like doing the happy dance just by looking at it too :)

Want to check out more inspirations and be entered in a giveaway?

Winnie & Walter Premier Day 2

Hi and welcome to Winnie & Walter Premier Day 2!
I hope that you had a great time getting inspired by all of the Talent's creations and thank you for joining us again :)

I am featuring From the Bottom of my Heart stamp set and its coordinating cutaways and the Sentimental: Birthday stamp set today.

For this card, I used the stamps From the Bottom of my Heart & its coordinating cutaways. I wanted to keep this card clean and simple so I used the watercolor technique that I showed in my video tutorial yesterday to stamp the heart image in the centre and I die cut the heart stamps and the word 'thanks' and 'heart'. I popped the words with some foam tape to create some dimension and adhered the hearts down with adhesives. I added some clear dew drops too because I really love them.

And for this second card, I really love all the birthday sentiments in the Sentimental:Birthday set. There are so many happy sentiments to choose from and they are all so fun! I kept this pretty simple too... I guess it's my theme for the day. Haha :) I cut strips of patterned paper and adhered them on the base cardstock and then I handcut the banners after I stamped the sentiments on them. Finally, I popped them up using foam tape for added dimension. This is a fun and simple way to make lots of birthday cards in one seating.

Before you go, do remember to hop over to Winnie & Walter's blog for more inspiration from the rest of the Talents and for the giveaway! I would also love to know what you think about my cards and do check out my Youtube channel and maybe follow me on Instagram too for sneaks, my life in my Travelers Notebook, love for essential oils and occasional giveaways!

Thanks for dropping by.

Winnie & Walter Premiere Day 1 & A Watercolor Technique Video :)

Hallo everyone! Happy Summer :)
I've been preoccupied with spending time with my kiddo since school's out and we've been enjoying time together both indoors and having outdoor playdates.

I am so excited, though that you are here to join me on Winnie & Walter's Premier Day 1! Today, we will be showcasing...

In Bloom: Carolina's Florals with Angelica Suarez
In Bloom: Carolina's Florals with Angelica Suarez Cutaways
Mini Scenery: Spotty
In a Word: Birthday Cutaway
In a Word: Party Cutaway

I have used In Bloom: Carolina's Florals for this card that I made and I am also sharing a watercolor technique video that I used to create this card. It was a happy 'accident' really.

I wanted to use the inkpads that I have but because it's been so long since I last used them, they were slightly dried up and the stamped images did not appear very nice. But I really wanted to use the strawberry images in this set so I tried using watercolors instead and it worked out unexpectedly well!

And here's the video I made to share the technique with you and I hope that you will check it out :)

And in this second card, I used In A Word: Birthday Cutaway and In Bloom: Carolina's Florals. I kept it a clean and simple card and I hope that you will like it.

Also, please check out the Winnie & Walter Blog for more Giveaways! :)

I would really love to know what you think of my cards and technique video, maybe even subscribe to my Youtube Channel and follow my blog. If you're interested, I also share sneak peeks of my projects and my life in my Travelers Notebooks on my Instagram.

Do have a great day and I hope that you will come by my blog again soon!

A Youtube video + A Giveaway!

Good day to you all! :)

Over the last week, I was busy recording and creating this video that I will be sharing today using stamp sets I designed for Winnie & Walter. I have a love/hate relationship recording videos. On one hand, I love doing it but sometimes I have to stop multiple times during a recording and the lighting is all off because of that or when I keep stumbling during the voice overs.. haha. Does anyone else have that kind of feelings towards video recording, or is it just me? :P

It's Teacher's Appreciation week in my son's school and I made a set of woodland themed card sets as a gift to his teacher. In conjunction with that, I also want to appreciate you guys and so there will be a giveaway with this video. Yeay! (more details below)

Stamp sets used are illustrated by me for Winnie & Walter:
1. Kindness
2. Happiest of Holidays
3. Welcome to the Family

Tips & Techniques : Staedtler Triplus Fineliner

Hi there! I hope that you are having a lovely day and thank you for dropping by. Today I want to share a little tip that I use when I am painting/coloring small images.

When I illustrated these trees and cactuses for Winnie and Walter's Kindness stamp set , I drew the flowers and hearts really tiny. Well, I wanted them to look dainty and add interest to the plants without overwhelming them. However, they can be a little challenging to color. Especially if you love to watercolor them (like me) :)

However, if you have fine tip colored pens or my personal favorites, the Staedtler Triplus Fineliner, you can use them to color these fine details. The nibs are really fine and they color very well over watercolor too. It covers the green totally and the red stands out. And because the nib is really fine, you can get the tiny areas and won't run the risk of coloring out of the line. I am 'slightly' very OCD, so I need to color within the lines... hehe.

As you can see, using this fineliner allows me great coverage and oh, it also doesn't bleed! Another plus, right? :)

I hope that you enjoyed this little tip and have fun coloring tiny images on the stamps in your stash. I would love to see your creations if you made any using this tip. Just link me up in the comments section.

Thank you for dropping by!

Brush Pen Review | Brush Pens I am Currently Using

Hi friends! I hope that you are having a good day so far and thank you for dropping by :)

I have posted a review of the current brush pens that I have in my stash up on my Youtube channel (video is also in this post if you read all the way to the end.. hehe).

I started my calligraphy journey a long time ago back in high school and I was using one of those refillable calligraphy pens. Most of the scripts I have written back then were Italics or Gothic styles because I only have the italic nib and I didn't know there were so many different types of scripts. Like drawing, I stopped writing in calligraphy when I went off to pursue my tertiary education. I think I probably didn't have as much time at my disposal as I used to back in high school and so I didn't even think about them. Come to think of it, I stopped many creative things in College.... I stopped drawing, writing and reading for leisure! If I could turn back time, I would tell myself to continue my creative pursuits even if it was only for 10-15 minutes a day!

Back in 2013/14, I discovered modern calligraphy on Instagram. I bough a kit from Maybelle and learned how to write using a dip pen. That was fun but being a leftie, writing with a dip pen came with quite a bit of challenges. The angle of the nib, the wet ink smudges are a constant struggle. That said, I like how I had to slow down to write each and every letter and just let it flow. Another one of my personal challenge was that I like it if I write in a straight line and because I am a leftie and the angle I hold my nib, I slant my paper and that made it hard for me to see if I was writing straight. haha....

Then I discovered --> Brush Pens! Yeay! They write like a pen but with a brush nib that allows me to achieve that thick and think lines I love but I can hold them like I would a pen and not have to slant the paper :D Figuring out which brush pens to use was the only challenge and I began my journey figuring out which ones would be best suited for me and that's where this blog post and video comes in.

I don't have many brush pens in my stash but I do have very good ones, in my opinion. I don't have colored ones because I will use my watercolor brush if I am doing brush calligraphy in colors. I will probably do a video of that in the near future. Let me know if you would like that :)

The brush pens used in this video are all my own and are not sponsored:
  1.  Tombow Calligraphy Pen Dual Nib - Black/Grey
  2.  Tombow Soft Nib
  3.  Pentel Sign Pens
  4.  Faber-Castell Brush Pen
  5.  Deleter Neopiko Line 3
  6.  Kuretake Fudegokochi

If you have any questions, please do leave a comment. I am also on Instagram and you can follow me @evelintdesigns for more of my stationery and cards in pictures.

Travelers Notebook : Flip-through Jan-Feb 2017

Hallo there, friends :)

In an earlier post this year, I wrote about simplifying my planner/journal stash and I am happy to report that so far, it has been good for my soul. I have been using the journal in my Traveler's Notebook to document my days and to write down things I am thankful for. On some days, I can fill up the whole page or more but on some days, I might only just write down my thankful thoughts for the day or some brush lettering on uplifting quotes or scriptures.

My Moleskine is strictly a planner where I put my To Do's, plan my blog posts and scribble some random ideas. Kinda like a catch all... although I feel that there is not enough space sometimes. haha. This year, I am planning some staycations and day trips to take with the family too. So, the monthly pages in the Moleskine does come in very handy. One of the reason why I chose the Moleskine was because it had the monthly layout and also the weekly layout in one planner. I only wished they had more blank pages at the end of the book so that I can write down Ideas/scribbles. My plan for next year was to only use the TN but I need to find out if the TN has a monthly and Weekly view in one notebook. If it doesn't, I probably will have to rethink that option for next year.

I keep my journal pretty fluid. I think it is most probably influenced by elements of scrapbooking and Project Life. Some of my pages lean heavily on writing while others have photos, ephemera, doodles, brush lettering, embellishments.... It's like I fused the things I love most about each of the creative outlet I used to do into one journal and I like that :)

I hope that you will enjoy my short video flip-through of my Jan-Feb pages. I also share my life in pictures over at my Instagram and crafty videos over at my Youtube channel.

Sunshine + Fresh Air = Good for the Soul

Good Monday Morning!

I hope you are having a great start of the day and have had (or is having) your morning coffee :) I love my morning coffee and some peace and quiet before the day starts.

Anyways, how was your weekend? It has been rainy here in Southern California and I have been loving it. Well, I do enjoy the sunshine too but if given a choice, I would choose cloudy days above all. Rain is great too cos everything seems to slow down and I do understand that it's harder to do outdoor activities when it rains but there's always comfort in a good book under a throw or enjoying journaling and art indoors!

Last Saturday, however, was nice and sunny which was perfect for soccer practice :)

We don't usually go out to the parks in the mornings so this is a new routine for us, which we are actually enjoying. After breakfast, we drove to the Park where the kids were to have their soccer practice.

It's fun to see all the kids listening to the Coaches' instructions and learning to kick and dribble the ball. The kids were having so much fun and I love how attentive and focused Ryan was. We have brought him along with us since he was a little over 2 years old to the field in the summer months to practice kicking the soccer ball and to run with us and he has always enjoyed it so when his classmate's mum organized this soccer practice, we said we would join.

They also had some other fun and games after some light drills.

Fresh air and sunshine is so good for the soul (my favorite is still cloudy days.. haha). Hubby and I were saying that we are going to take turns watching Ryan so that the other can go for a jog around the park and get our exercise in too. I do love that idea and can't wait for next Saturday to be here already :)

Have a lovely day!

Resist.able Papers & Watercolor

Good morning!

I have been having fun thinking of blog posts, blogging and recording videos to share. It does take quite a bit of time to do all the above but I do think that it is a good use of time and any time that is well used, is good for the soul, right? :)

Doing voiceovers is still one of the things that takes up quite a big chunk of time because I kept blubbering and had to retake them several times. Haha. I believe that as time goes by and I get more practice, it will get better and faster! Anyways, my videos are usually really short (so that I don't have to talk much...) and I hope that you enjoy watching them as much as I had fun recording & editing them.

Today, I am sharing a card video using resist.able papers from PinkPaislee and stamps from Winnie & Walter. I do believe that these papers are from quite a long time ago. I have been hoarding them and as I was reorganizing this time, I thought that I had better use them. Hoarding them won't make anything fun :) So I trimmed them down to size, pulled out my watercolors and started playing! I use the word 'playing' when I am working on my illustrations too and my hubby always thought that I am not doing what I am supposed to be doing and is really actually playing! LOL.

Below is the process video of me playing with the resist.able papers and creating the cards you saw above. I hope that you will enjoy watching it. I am also on Instagram and would love for you to follow me there too :)

As usual, thank you for dropping by!

Constellations and Shitajiki / Pencil Boards

Hi everybody! Good morning :)

Today I would like to share about this little project of mine that has taken quite a while for me to complete... I started this last year but being the queen of procrastination that I am, I kept putting it off.

This year, however, I really want to set out to complete projects that I had in mind and also to achieve the goals that I set for myself. It takes a lot of willpower and basically to just hunker down and do it! That and also to really keep track of myself and pulling myself back on track whenever I slide off, and setting more realistic goals for myself each week.

I used to set really high goals, lots of to dos and things to accomplish... it feels like setting myself up for failure because there's too many things to complete and we only have 24 hours a day to juggle so many things. I get demotivated after some time looking at all the things that I couldn't cross off my list because they are not done and that is not a good feeling.

Keeping my list more achievable now is helping me complete more tasks and I find it way more effective. If I complete the tasks I set out to do before the end of the week, then I will add more. This rarely happens but I am checking off more things from my list than before.

This is my 'unfinished project' from last year. I wanted to come out with a constellation zodiac pencil board (shitajiki) for my etsy shop. I really do love lettering and I wish I have more things to write :D

The mess I made when I was completing this and I love it!

And they are done!

I couldn't be happier than finally completing editing and printing them out. I love how the silver splatters really do look silvery! They are all printed on 110lb white cardstock and will be laminated for protection and I do make various sizes to fit any of the travelers notebook or journals out there. Well, these are handmade with love by me so I can make them any size you want :)

I hope that you will use them in your journals and to accompany you in your journey of life, a reminder to slow down and enjoy the little things in life. These and many others can be found in my Store.

Thank you for reading!

Monday Funday : Brush Lettering

I love to write scripture verses and quotes I find inspiring in my traveler's notebook as I journal. It's a good way for me to practice my brush calligraphy and also slows me down to contemplate on the meaning behind the words I write down.

Words can inspire and words can destroy.

I choose to write down uplifting words and words that inspire me in my journal and a reminder to me to speak kindly to others. Words are powerful and there are ways to speak our minds and yet speak it without hurting the person we are talking to. It is hard sometimes, especially when emotions are heightened. I, for one, have said things I wish I had more time to think about before replying or when I was calmer but hey, we are all learning to be better, right? The important thing is that we are making a conscious effort to guard & better ourselves. It's ok to stumble, we just need to pick ourself up and move on.

This is a time-lapse video of my brush lettering. I have also uploaded it on my Youtube channel and I hope that you will enjoy watching it. Follow me over at my Instagram too if you like to see more pictures of my love for analogue :)

Season's Tweetings : Merry & Bright

I know Christmas is over but it is a very merry feeling to create Christmas cards. Well, at least that is the case for me :) Christmas has always been a favourite season of mine. I love the songs, the atmosphere and the meaning of Christmas. Besides, it's always a good idea to start early and hopefully I will have a healthy stack of Christmas card to send out by the end of this year! I am taking a cue from my dear friend Amy who is building up her stash of Christmas cards early. I really do think it is a very smart thing to do :)

For this card, I am using Season's Tweetings from Winnie & Walter. When I drew the images for this set, I wanted an igloo strung with lights because it feels more festive to me and besides, that would mean more for me to paint and colors adds accents without adding bulk. And oh, what's an igloo without penguin companions, right? These merry trio aims to put a smile on your face :)

I added Stickles on the poms I drew so that they sparkle when light hits them :) I try to make cards as flat as I can especially if I am mailing them overseas but without compromising dimension and accent if possible. So I usually use colors and little sparkles to add some interest.

And as you can see from my previous posts, I love to use watercolor on my stamped images. I have tried many other mediums which I use once in a while but my go-to would be watercolors. I just love working with them and watching them blend. Perhaps I will do a short video on blending sometime soon?

I hope you liked my card and these cute penguins from Season's Tweetings. And if you like to join me on my adventures in journaling and my love for illustration & stationery, I post pretty frequently over at my Instagram account.

The night I drew a Rooster

According to the Chinese Zodiac, the year 2017 is the Year of the Rooster. The Rooster is the tenth animal of the 12-year cycle of the Chinese Zodiac and yes, I know that the Lunar New Year started on January 28 but the celebration technically lasts 15 days so it's not too late to share this watercolor illustration I did last week, right? :)

I know I already shared this on my Instagram but I thought I would share it here too on my blog. I drew this last week during my nightly 'me-time'. I try to carve out some time to create every night and just to slow down, watch some Netflix, journal, illustrate and watercolor :) It's been therapeutic and I enjoy the quiet of the night.

And here's the hyperlapse of me watercoloring the little Rooster. It was really fun drawing and watercoloring this and I hope you enjoy watching this process video. If you have any requests on what to draw or paint next, do drop a comment (or two) and if you like, follow me on Instagram :)

My 2017 Set Up

From trying to scrapbook to preserve the memories of our daily life, to trying Project Life and only succeeding for a year and a half, my analogue system has evolved over the years. I guess with all things that changes in life, the methods and tools that we use to change over time as well.

And because I love stationeries, I was using too many tools for memory keeping. At one point I was using a planner, a hobonichi and a Travelers Notebook as well. I loved them all but it got overwhelming and it wasn't effective seeing that I would need to lug them all out with me if I were to go somewhere. That and everything was everywhere... and so I decided I wanted to simplify come 2017 and change the way I kept my journal & planner.

'Change is the only constant in life'
- Heraclitus

This year, I am only using 2 journals. My Traveler's Notebook and my 18-month Moleskine. I started using the Moleskine in July 2016 and this time I am committed to using it until the last page. My Moleskine is where I write down my To Do Lists and Daily Happenings. It's where I write down our Grocery spending, activities to do with Ryan and quotes.

I have used the Moleskine planner once before but I was unable to commit to the last page... well, I did mention at the start of the post that I love stationery, right? :) That was one of the reasons why I did not stuck it out. I moved on to using planners which was a good system and I still love them but I will use them for writing down my orders and maybe recipes instead of being a mobile system.

Inside my Traveler's Notebook, I have the Superior Labor Travel for Life wallet where I keep some spare cash, receipts and a photo of my family, a journal I keep records of my daily life and things I am thankful for each day and a spare notebook I keep to jot random things in. And next year, I have plans to simplify further. To use only the Traveler's Notebook for Daily Planning and journaling and that will be the only journal I will be bringing with me. I like that everything will be in one place and how I will be bringing less out but have so much more with me :)

Another recent companion to my analogue tools is the Mod Tablet 3 from This is Ground. It holds all my essential analogue tools in one place and forces me to bring less. I had to seriously consider what I needed and only put those in the Mod. It was not an easy task at all! All these reaffirms me that less is more. In this modern world where we just want more and more things, having less is actually sparking more joy to me and I haven't really felt the urge to make purchases and when I did consider buying something, I paused and think carefully if I really needed it.

Pausing makes us slow down and if we forget about the thing we wanted to buy after a couple of days, we probably don't need it in the first place :)

Here's to simplifying and having fun doing it too :)

Oh hey, I am on Instagram too if you would like to follow my life in pictures.

Winnie & Walter Jan/Feb Release : Premiere Day 4

Hi there lovelies!

It's the final Premiere day over at Winnie & Walter and the releases will be available tonight at 10pm CST. I hope that you have been enjoying hopping along all the Talents' blogs and looking at all the wonderful projects they have come up with and oh, I hope you joined the giveaways over at Winner & Walter's blog too.

I have 3 cards to show you today but they revolve around the same theme and it was pretty quick to assemble them once the prep work has been done :) I usually watercolor and pre-cut the stamped images that I would want to use and keep them in a little drawer in my acrylic box so I can see what I have inside.

I created 3 cards with hilly elements using the cute animals from Welcome to the Family stamp set (and a couple of older sets, of course!)

I don't have any dies that cut shapes of 'hills' so I hand cut the hilly shapes freehand. It's pretty easy to eyeball them. For each card, I cut 3 pieces to create the shapes of the hills.

After I hand cut the shapes, I lined them up and lightly marked the spot where the bottom piece will go with a pencil. I popped the middle and uppermost layer with pop dots. For the middle piece, I actually cut my pop dot in half (to make it half the thickness) so that I have varying degree of hills.

Once I get the hills in place, I place the trees from Season's Tweetings stamp set and arranged the little elephant and bunny on the card before I adhere them on with glue and pop dots.

I stamped the sentiment last... Thankfully my trees were all adhered flat on the card so that worked out fine :) I then added a heart balloon on the card with pop dots and drew the balloon string for little Ellie.

Side view of my card. I think I might a bunch more of these because I am kinda liking cutting the hills and creating dimensions with them.

As I was staring at the card after it was done, I felt that it needed a little something more so I added some watercolor on the hills.

I hope you like the cards I created with Welcome to the Family with Evelin T Designs and I hope that you are loving the cutaways and new stamps in this Release. If you would like to see more cards, my daily journaling and more pictures, do follow me on my Instagram.

And last but not least, do remember to drop by Winnie & Walter's blog for giveaways and all the best!

Thanks for dropping by.

Winnie & Walter Jan/Feb Release : Premiere Day 3

Good Morning :)

It's Release Day no. 3 over at Winnie & Walter and boy, do they have an amazing assortment of cutaways and cute stamps lined up! Of course, I am a little biased but I do hope that you will love the stamps and all the timeless cutaways that will be released on February 3.

I am so thankful to be able to design for Winnie & Walter and I always feel so blessed to be able to see (& to use) the stamps I illustrated 'come to life'. I hope that you will love creating with these cute little animals as much as I loved drawing them.

First up is this card I made using the Monkey and Elephant stamp from the Big Hugs stamp set. I stamped the image on watercolor paper and then painted it.

I wet the background area with some water before applying the watercolor and when the background is almost dry, I painted the little animals. This way, the paint won't run into each other and smear.

For the second card, I watercolored the stamped Puppy and Kitty image and popped them on some pop dots to create dimension and added enamel dots as well.

It's been a while since I used enamel dots and they are so fun to use. They add dimension and pops of color to a card without adding too much bulk.

I love making cards that I can use for many occasions and I keep a stash of these in case I need any and have no time to make them on the spot. Do you keep stashes of handmade cards around too or do you prefer to create on the spot? :)

I hope you like the cards I shared with you. I would love to read your comments and if you are interested, I share my love for stationery and illustration over at my Instagram too.

Be sure to hop on over to Winnie & Walter's blog for giveaways & good luck!

Thanks for dropping by!

Hi, it's me!

Hi, it's me again.

You must be wondering why I wrote 'again' when this is my very first post and this is clearly a brand new blog. Well, that's because silly me wanted to try setting up my own domain last year for my blog shop but decided to continue on with my etsy shop  instead and when that domain ended, I lost my blog that I started many years ago (because I forgot to back it up... oh well).

So here we are. A fresh start. A clean slate. A brand new beginning for what (I hope) will be a place where you will want to stop by when you are having your morning breakfast or during your coffee break or you know, when you just want a blog to read. And I do hope that we can get to know each other a little better in the coming days as I share snippets of my life, my illustrations, crafty ideas or maybe even some parenting anecdotes I pick up along the way.

And now, a little about me. My name is Evelin and I grew up in sunny Malaysia. We have an excellent variety of cuisine in Malaysia so most of the time, if you meet a Malaysian overseas, they will inevitably talk about how much they miss the food back home (yes... no kidding). In 2012, we moved to California. A year later, our family of two became a family of three.

I love to draw and used to draw while the teacher was teaching. It wasn't too hard to hide considering how I was always seated at the back row. I used to read voraciously and am trying to pick up reading regularly again. I love coffee (It just smells so good). I love all things paper-related. I love bookbinding and used to conduct workshops back in Malaysia. I started cardmaking in 2008 and scrapbooking in 2012 although I don't scrapbook much anymore. I started journaling after trying out Project Life and I love documenting my every day.

Life has a way of connecting the dots and from my desire to attend CHA to actually attending it and that leading to opportunities to design stamp sets for Pinkfresh Studio and Winnie Walter has really been a dream come true. I remember those days back in 2008 when I wishfully thought if a dream like that could ever come true.

I am mostly a hopeful person and I'm a night owl. Sometimes I do wish that I am a morning person because my kid is and all I want to do is to sleep-in while he goes, 'Wake Up!'

If you made it this far, thank you for your patience and I do hope you managed to get to know me a little. I find it challenging to write about myself so if you would like to know more about me, just leave me a comment. As of now, I am still figuring out my posting schedule but I will have blog posts up on Thursday and Friday this week. Come back then and please do leave me a comment. Tell me about yourself. I will get a coffee and let's get acquainted :)

In the meantime, you can check out my Instagram feed as I do hang out there quite often.
